Jordi Sánchez holds a bachelor's degree in Information Sciences from the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB, 1996) and a PhD in Audiovisual Communication from Ramon Llull University (URL, 2005). He is currently a member of teaching staff at the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya (UOC) and the dean of its Faculty of Information and Communication Sciences. His research and teaching focus on image culture, cultural history and aesthetics of film and animation, and design culture. He is coordinating researcher of the consolidated Learning, Media and Entertainment research group (GAME). As a researcher, he has coordinated several funded projects and is currently part of the research team working on "From social space to cinematographic space: transnational mise-en-scènes in contemporary film", a project selected under the most recent aid scheme run by the Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation for knowledge-generating projects. He was director of the Barcelona International Comic Fair and deputy director of the Sitges - International Fantastic Film Festival of Catalonia, where he continues to programme the animation category, Anima't. He is the author of some 30 articles in high-impact scientific journals and several book chapters in the fields of visual culture, film history and aesthetics, and media sociology. He has also authored the books Tim Burton. Cuentos en sombras (Glénat, 2000), Curtis Harrington. Danza Macabra (Sitges - International Fantastic Film Festival of Catalonia, 2003), Freaks en acción.
