Gemma San Cornelio's research activity focuses on studying creative forms of digital media: aesthetics and visual culture in digital environments.

Her main research focus is the study of images and narratives generated by users in social networks on the internet, based on the articulation of identity and storytelling, and more recently in forms of activism and social mobilization using social media. She is interested in participatory creation processes, exploration and innovation in research methods and the bridge that links creativity and aesthetics in contemporary societies.

She is the coordinator of the Mediaccions (critical studies in culture, design and networked communication) research group at the UOC.
