Irene Rovira's teaching and research activity focuses on taxation, particularly on aspects related to family, real estate and economic activity taxation.

Mindful of today's pressing issues, one of her main research lines aims to determine the tax implications of situations brought about by COVID-19 (especially given the now-widespread nature of remote working), while analysing how these situations should be correctly taxed and proposing improvements after working out the main problems and needs.

She also studies regional and local taxation and, more generally, the distribution of taxing power, essential aspects for painting a full picture of the tax system.

First prize in the taxation category at the 2017 Estudios Financieros Awards for her research paper titled "The complex relationship between binding tax consultations and court rulings". €9,000. Madrid, July 2017.

20th AEDAF Award. Second prize for her paper titled "Family taxation in personal income tax". €1,000. Madrid, March 2016.

Ferrer Eguizábal Legal Prize on Financial and Tax Law, awarded by the Barcelona Bar Association to the best research project, for her project "The information and assistance duties of the Catalan and Barcelona tax authorities". €3,300. Barcelona, November 2014.

Recognition of two six-year research periods (2007-2012 and 2013-2018) by the Catalan University Quality Assurance Agency (AQU Catalunya), part of the Government of Catalonia.
