The research activity focuses on:

Positioning and navigation in indoor environments without any added infrastructure. Signals of opportunity such as Wi-Fi are used, together with the fingerprinting technique or magnetic fields. This positioning line is combined with route creation and management on real maps in the ICSO group.
Use of smartphones for disease prevention. This is done preferably through the use of context-based messages with supervision by the health authorities. Geofencing techniques and gamification mechanisms are used to provide the context.
Teaching physics, principally in online environments. He worked on the use of video as a support for teaching physics, and prior to that, he worked on the use of mathematical language in online environments. His current open line is related with using tools of synchronous communication in the classroom.

Lines of research

Indoor positioning

Positioning in indoor environments without any added infrastructure. Signals of opportunity such as Wi-Fi are used, together with the fingerprinting technique or magnetic fields. Various machine learning techniques are used to obtain the position.

Calculating routes on real maps

Distance databases that enable comparisons of algorithms are often used to calculate and optimize routes, but they cannot be transposed to real-life situations. This line studies ways to apply routing algorithms with real data.

Use of mobile devices in disease prevention

Disease prevention apps are developed that send messages based on the user's context. These apps use geolocation techniques to find out where the user is, but without sharing the location.

The idea is to automate "smartness" within the device itself. In addition, if the users so wish, the apps allow information to be shared with the public health services, which can also supervise the information shown and send its own information to users.

Remote teaching of physics

The research focuses on teaching complex physics concepts in e-learning environments. Current research involves the use of video as a tool for conveying information and the types of video that are most efficient, taking into account the teaching staff's characteristics. Other areas of research include the use of mathematical language in online environments. Currently, the study of synchronous communication tools in the classroom is also included.
