Researcher Mireia Fernández-Ardèvol's R&I work focuses on analysing the influence of mobile digital communication in our societies. In particular, her areas of interest are:

a) Ageing and digital technologies: analysis of the everyday practices of the elderly, placing them at the centre of the research and moving away from care- or health-based approaches.
b) Development and digital divides: study of the (new) forms of digital exclusion and their evolution, with special focus on Latin America.
c) Big data: assessment of the opportunities and challenges that arise from the present hyper-data digital environment, with particular interest in biases and discriminatory dynamics involving specific groups.

She is co-director of the CNSC (Communication Networks & Social Change) research group at the UOC.
