Associate Professor in Political Science (UOC). PhD in Political Science and Sociology (Deusto University -Bilbao-). She has been an Associate Director of the Doctoral Program in Information and Knowledge Society at UOC, Visiting Scholar at the University of Michigan and Senior Researcher at the Pompeu Fabra University.

Her main areas of research are online deliberation and participation, social networks and the use of social media and digital platforms by local governments and political parties.

Lines of research

Online deliberation and participation through digital platforms, civic technologies and social media

This research line looks at the role different social and political actors (political parties, social movements, citizens and civic organizations) play in deliberative systems. It also studies how to measure and analyse online deliberation (system of deliberative criteria and indicators, manual and automated coding analyses, social network analysis and data-driven analysis of participatory platforms) and how to foster deliberation through experimentation and interventions on participatory platforms and media.

Political deliberation in political parties and on social media

The aim of this research line is to use content analysis, network analysis and big data to study how political parties and their associated networks (followers, factions, civic associations, social movements and opponents) are using social media. Are they contributing to a deliberative public sphere or are they just channels for propaganda and polarization?

Participatory platforms and governments and public administrations

The aim of this research line is to use specific case analysis and comparison to study the changes that participatory platforms can produce in the functioning of governments and public administrations. Could platforms substitute governments? What barriers do participatory platforms face in their development? Which platforms are needed for improved democracy?

Advice and consultancy services to organisations (public and private) on governance, administration and e-democracy.
