Eduard Aibar is a full professor of Science and Technology Studies in the Faculty of Arts and Humanities at the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya and also a member of the MUSSOL Philosophy for Contemporary Challenges research group. He has a PhD in Philosophy from the University of Barcelona (UB). He teaches on the bachelor's degree in Humanities, the bachelor's degree in Anthropology and Human Evolution, the master's degree in Philosophy for Contemporary Challenges and the university master's degree in History of the Contemporary World at the UOC. He has been a postdoctoral researcher at Maastricht University (Netherlands), the University of Salamanca and the University of Barcelona. He was vice president for Research at the UOC from 2005 to 2009 and director of the UOC's Internet Interdisciplinary Institute (IN3) and director of the Information and Knowledge Society doctoral programme in other periods. He has conducted research mainly on social aspects of science and technology, in the field of Science & Technology Studies (STS). He has recently focused on the study of open science and technology, analysing the ideology of innovation, and has led two research projects on the role of Wikipedia in the public communication of science and in university teaching.
