My profile

The R&D activities of researcher Ferran Adelantado Freixer focus on the development of distributed systems decentralised on different scales (small groups, clusters or the Internet), optimisation algorithms and parallel computing systems, and on the development of collaborative learning systems.

In particular, special emphasis is given, on the one hand, to peer-to-peer paradigms, message passing, shared memory, grid and cloud computing models and optimisation-simulation algorithms. On the other, he works on the analysis and evaluation of collaborative interactions in virtual learning environments.

Lines of research

Large-scale decentralized systems

This line focuses on the construction of distributed systems made of many nodes (hundreds or thousands) spread over the Internet in order to minimise the dependence of centralisation points of the system.

Analysis of complementarity in job occupation

The aim is to analyse the effect of digital technologies on job occupation and more specifically, how to improve this, both quantitatively and qualitatively by means of ICT complementarity, together with business reorganization and new job offer conditions. Taking into account this objective, the analysis should be necessarily based on the study of individual data items (microdata).

Services for the development and evaluation of communication protocols for wireless sensor networks. Evaluation and development of shared-media access mechanisms with scenario considerations as well as technological consultancy for the implementation of sensor networks.

Design of collaborative and affective learning environments with emphasis on customisation, monitoring and assessment of learning

Analysis and advice services for the implementation of: (a) collaborative learning environments; experience design; and (b) methodological solutions for the design and implementation of personalisation, monitoring and evaluation approaches in different areas.
