Learning regulation in open social learning environments

This research line is focused onsupporting theanalysis and design of learning regulation processes in flexible and open online environments where participation and social interaction provide the basic structure and resources for individual and collective knowledge building. More precisely, the aim is to study the interaction of learning self-regulation, co-regulation and socially shared regulation processesin environments based on networked collaboration and social learning. A design-based research model is applied to intervene directly in pedagogical practice through an iterative cycle comprisingfour different stages:design, intervention, evaluation and reflection. This process allows us to develop and testhypotheses on social regulation processes.

Student-centred learning and students as co-design partners

This research line is focused onstudying processes, methodologies and tools for designing and co-designing learning scenarios and experiences from a learner's perspective, with students as co-design partners. The designed scenarios are aimed at granting learners control of their own learning while developing agency through inquiry-based and dialogic teaching and learning approaches.

Digital culture, online communities and new learning ecologies

This line of research is focused on studyingthe learning processes, spaces, timings, tools, devices, activities and other aspects that are emerging as a result of individual and social participation ina range of online communities. Such participationgives rise to new ecologies of learning and new forms of professional development.
